For many addicts, intervention is the first step in their recovery because it is often the first time they understand that they have a problem with drugs or alcohol. An intervention is an organized, planned meeting in which the addict’s friends, family members, and loved ones come together to confront the addict about their drug and/or alcohol problem, present examples of how they have harmed themselves or others, and urge them to go into a rehabilitation program. For an intervention to be effective, we encourage an intensive planning stage guided by a qualified interventionist. An intervention is NOT the same as rehabilitation, and won’t prevent an addict from abusing drugs or alcohol on its own. An intervention MUST be followed up by rehabilitation.

Many, though certainly not all, addicts need to preface rehabilitation with a period of detox. Detox, or detoxification, is a medically supervised procedure intended to reduce many of the worst symptoms of withdrawal. For many addicts, this procedure can require certain medicines, or an IV for hydration and nutrition.
Too many rehab facilities have a cookie-cutter strategy to getting clients clean, however all too often that method doesn't deal with the root causes of dependency or assist the client with how to learn to resist addiction by themselves.
For people that were addicted to alcohol, opiates, and some other types of drugs, detox is an extremely necessary part of rehab, since withdrawal from those substances can actually be deadly without medical assistance. ‘Cold turkey’ isn’t just inappropriate but might be fatal for some people. Since detox is not the full extent of treatment, it will not end a person’s addiction, rather, it is only intended to assist an addict to correctly withdraw from drugs and alcohol.
For people in all stages of dependency, whether they’ve just started abusing, or if they habitually abuse drugs or alcohol, a treatment center is able to offer safe, efficient rehabilitation. Their treatment programs include, but aren’t limited to, treatment for alcohol, opiates (heroin, codeine), prescribed drugs (pharmaceuticals, hydrocodone, oxycodone), designer drugs (bath salts, many stimulants), crystal meth, cocaine, hallucinogens, and marijuana. Drug rehab provides the most powerful, effective treatment by assessing the roots of the addiction, any contributing mental factors (like co-occurring disorders), and the most effective path towards recovery for each individual client.
Addiction is clearly an insidious, frightening illness, as demonstrated by the fact that people who suffer from dependency not only harm themselves, but often harm the people that they love. Although there is not any wonder ‘cure’ for dependency, people who enter certified, accredited rehabilitation facilities experience the most success in their recovery. A drug rehab’s treatment plans aren’t only fact-based, but medically proven, and include individual and group counseling meetings, physical and recreational activities, participation in 12-step meetings, behavioral modeling, and all of the comforts of inpatient living at the affordable cost of an outpatient facility.
